Sandzak – Sandzak Mufti Muamer Zukorlic announced that the new constitution of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina will offer all the Islamic communities in the region to be part of one single community, based in Sarajevo.
Zukorlic said for Podgorica TV News, that he believes that southern Sandzak, or the northern part of Montenegro, is an unresolved issue within the Islamic community, and that the new Constitution of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina will offer Sarajevo as the spiritual center for Montenegrin Muslims as well.
“Southern Sandzak or northern Montenegro, depending on how it is referred to, can now be considered an unresolved internal issue within the Islamic community, and one of the intentions of the new Constitution of the Islamic Community, based in Sarajevo, is that it, by agreement or otherwise, is to attempt to solve it”, he specified.
Sandzak Mufti added that this document provides the Islamic community in the region to be an integral part of a national organization based in Sarajevo.
Zukorlic said he considers himself the leader of Muslims in all of Sandzak, as well as northern Montenegro.
“I am the Mufti of Sandzak, and Sandzak is a historical-cultural category, and it’s boundaries can not be redrawn and modified with scissors or any other means. Even then, we were persuaded by the political and state leadership of Montenegro that independence can not and must not affect any relation to the spiritual, intra-household, and cultural realm,” added Zukorlic.
He recalled that in 1993 a Sandzak Meshihat was formed from the Boards of the Islamic Communities of Novi Pazar, Tutin, Sjenica, Priboj, Prijepolje, Rozaje, Bijelo Polje, Berane and Petnjica.
