Northern Sandzak – Vice president and deputy of SDA Sandzak Enis Imamovic believes that Sandzak should have a high degree of autonomy as does South Tyrol.

It was after visiting South Tyrol, where they discussed “cooperation on defining the autonomy of Sandzak as a cross-border European region between Serbia and Montenegro,” that he said a high degree of autonomy is best for Sandzak “rich people live freely and exercise their rights, in according to the Constitution, national laws and international standards that govern the system in which they live. “

“If autonomy, according to senior representatives of the Serbian authorities, is a good ideal for the Serbs in Kosovo, it could be for all the citizens of Sandzak,” evaluated Imamovic in an interview with “Politics”.

“As far as we are able to perceive, the theme of autonomy is a meaningful subject to President Tomislav Nikolic, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, First Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and other senior officials and institutions that seek autonomy for the Community of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo. If this is a good ideal for the Serbs in Kosovo I don’t see why it wouldn’t be for all the citizens living in Sandzak,” said Imamovic.

He added that the citizens of Sandzak are not supporters of defining regions along ethnic lines as is proposed for the Community of Serbian in general, as Sandzak is a “multi-ethnic environment in which there are very good relations between Bosniaks, Albanians, Serbs, Montenegrins and others.”

Imamovic said he saw not one bad aspect of the scheme of South Tyrol stating that the budget of the province is five billion euros to 550 000 inhabitants, while the average salary is 35 000 euros.

“We have the right, need and obligation to want the same for us, which is what we strive and ask for, for the citizens of Sandzak,” said Imamovic.

Imamovic asserted that the state of democracy in our country is not at a high enough level as it is in the UK where the citizens have opportunity to say, think and feel what they want.

“Here if you so much as mention autonomy, the kind that is defined in the Constitution, immediately the entire Serbian political elite and the media jump to break the spine,” stated Imamovic for “Politics”, recalling that Sandzak’s citizens voted for autonomy in the 1991 referendum.
