Novi Pazar – The City Administration building in Novi Pazar, along with the area where the Cultural Center is located, was built after the destruction of the Ejub Beg Mosque that stood in the same place.

Authorities demolished Ejub Beg Mosque soon after the genocide against Bosniaks in this region during the communist regime and after the execution of Bosniaks in Hadžet.

The decision to demolish Ejub Beg Mosque was made by former Novi Pazar authorities. Serbia passed a law regarding restitution of property to religious communities.

According to the Serbian Law on Restitution of Property to Churches and Religious Communities, the City Administration in Novi Pazar is bound to return this waqf land, and everything built on it, to the Islamic community.

Law on Restitution of Property to Churches and Religious Communities, Article 9

“The subject of restitution of real estate at the moment of seizure of the property of churches and religious communities, including: agricultural land; forests and forest land; plot; residential and commercial buildings, or ideal parts of such buildings; flats and business premises; movable property of cultural, historical or artistic importance. ”
